TR is one of many--and you are exactly right.

However, the label "conservative" has been adopted (maybe "hijacked" is a better word) by a right-wing element that is entirely self-interested and has an agenda and ideology that excludes and is intolerant of anny dissent. It (they) are neither patriotic nor Christian--though they claim both in their effort to jsutify their actions.

And they regard "liberal" as a pejoritive term--and apply it to anyone who dares to dissent. For myself, I usually refer to them as "neoconservatives" as a way of distinguishing them from genuine conservattives--whose reputation/image has been unfairly tarnished by their involuntary associaation with these trash.

Obviously because it is the liberals who have always loved this country and wanted to make it a better place. This country was founded by Liberals. Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights. Franklin Roosevelt saved this country after the conservatives caused the depression and ruined the economy. He made it a better place by creating a safety net to protect the working people. John F. Kennedy restored patriotism and told us to "Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country" . JFK, Martin Luther King, and 60s liberals made the country a better place by promoting and passing Civil Rights.

Some people (a lot in this forum) have a hard time seeing the world in color ... or even in gray scale. To some it is simply black and white; agree with me - black, disagree with me - white, there is no in between.

For some, that means that your ideals must be in sharp contrast to their own, which means that you must be feared and, therefore labeled.

Ironic that all of us want to preserve life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, yet some want to do that at the expense of others' expression of those rights...

Are you saying that conservatives don't want to make this country a better place and don't love this country? That would be pretty arrogant.
