Yes, he is licking the salt off your hands. It is totally normal

If you don't have one, you should get a salt lick for him

properly 4 weeks is a splash youthful, i many times basically experience tender getting rats from a breeder who wont enable them to flow earlier 6-8 weeks. yet they are going to be weaned, so confident they are going to be ingesting good nutrition. you would be wanting to get an outstanding huge cage (a minimum of two cubic feet in line with rat) with bars at a million/2 an inch or smaller spacing or they are going to squeeze with the aid of, a plastic base is superb for my area, that is nice so avoids bumble foot, gentle weight and ordinary to bathe. it rather is superb to easily get the bigger cage right away away, rats improve promptly and you do no longer prefer to place off getting them a miles better cage via fact the extra area they have the happier and the fit they are going to be. I stay interior the united kingdom the place solid cages are many times -Furet Ferplast cages -Savic cages -Jenny cages -and the savic royal suite If i lived interior the U. S. i might definitely purchase a Critter u . s . a . As i do no longer understand the place you reside it rather is perplexing to propose solid cages yet sidestep cages for smaller rodents mutually with hamsters and mice and not in any respect use a tank. some cages for ferrets, chinchillas, degu's and birds are rather solid for rats, only verify the bar spacing, something they are able to extra healthful their head with the aid of, they are able to extra healthful their finished physique with the aid of. desire this helped

They do that often.
I don't have salt licks for my rats, I was told not to give them one. You might want to look up salt blocks and rats a bit more.

Some rats are just very licky.
Most rats shouldn't be sold untill they are at least 5 weeks because most breeders won't seperate untill they are that age.
Also, I couldn't tell in your post but rats NEED a same sex friend to be with. Please get a friend for your little boy to be with.

my pet rat did the same thing , and she had a mineral lick. I just thought of it as her way of showing affection. when ever I held her she would scamper up to reach my cheek and give me kisses there.

it's fine...I used to raise rats (weird I know) and they all liked to lick.
it might reduce if you get him a little mineral lick though, they like the salty taste of your hand. Just as long as he isn't biting it's okay.

You might just taste good. That sounds like he might have a separation anxiety. It won't hurt anything.
