hexadecimal is base 16, in other words the digits are:
0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, A, B, C, D, E, F
A-F being 10-16.

it's a base 16 number system. it uses 0 though 9 plus A, B, C, D, E, and F for its counting numbers. it is used because it is a multipule of the binary system which its a base 2 system

The motivation is abbreviating the binary notation in order to represent values in bytes/words.
So, insted of writing the binary digits, we represent each quad of bits by a symbol which represent a value between 0 and 15.
The symbols are 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,A,B,C,D,E
