I've got a school project with this topic as it's theme.... and I thought its range is kinda wide. So, what would you all say?

Why can't we, men, breath underwater.

Normally humans can't breathe underwater because lungs are designed to extract oxygen that forms 20% of air; water contains only a fraction of 1% of dissolved oxygen, which isn't enough to sustain human life.

If water is oxygenated at high pressure with pure oxygen it has been shown to support a rabbit's breathing. As far as I am aware no human has volunteered to test this out on themselves, but theoretically if it works for a rabbit it should work for a human.

Man has no means to separate the oxygen from the water like the gills of a fish.

Man can breathe under water using a scuba outfit; a diving suit; a bathyscaphe, a diving bell ... etc

Our lungs cannot take in oxygen from the water. They can only take in oxygen rich air from the atmosphere. Thats why we find it difficult to breath underwater.
Look it up on 'Google', you'll find tons of stuff by just typing 'Breathing'

Our lungs are not adapted to extract oxygen from the water and expel water vapor and carbon dioxide.

We need oxygen, not hydrogen combined with oxygen. Just plain oxygen.
