I drive a 1998 Ford Taurus. My vehicle vibarates really bad only while I am driving. I have been told that it could be a CV Joint, Axle, Burnt Cylinder or bad motor mount. The engine does shake when you put it in drive and push on the accelerator. Does anyone know what the problem could be. My bro told me to take it to the shop and tell them to replace the CV Axle. What should I do or what could the problem be?

Thanks :)

I am sorry, it is a burnt cylinder Valve, not just a burnt cylinder.

Thanks for the help.

Yes, my engine light is now on, It was not on before I took it to the shop. The light is on and sometimes it starts blinking and then stops, but the engine light stays on, it will not go off. I'm not sure if it is on because of the burnt valve in the cylinder or not. I have never seen an engine light blink like that. Is the blinking something that I need to worry about?

if it has a burnt valve get that fixed first. running the engine with a burnt valve will cause further damage to the engine and the emission system. if the check engine light is coming on there may already be damaged emission system components have them check at same time as getting burnt valve fixed. no need to replace any other parts until these are fixed. make sure both heads are rebuilt when fixing burnt valve.

Ya know a shaking engine on a 98 is most likely 1 of 2 things
1 Tune up. The engine will moss if the plugs/wires are bad
2 Motor mounts.

I don't know what a burnt cylinder is. Burnt valves yes but those engines aren't known for doing that. a burnt valve will also usually be along with a clicking noise.
The CV joint will click and thump when turning.

I do agree that you have a serious enough problem to have a shop give you an estimate on the repair. Then if you want you can shop around for having the work done and get a good price.

A blinking a lot of the time shows that you either have a problem with the engine itself or that you have a bad ground wire to your sensor that shows that you need to repair your engine, but if you have a burnt Exhaust Valve or Intake valve then you'll be blowing out smoke from your exhaust... But it seems that your getting piston slap in your engine cause it to vibrate if it's your cylinder then you'll hear some sort of clang in your engine and the piston rings are holding up their end and not creating combustion and the pistons wobbling in your engine almost freely... I'd be able to tell you better if you give me the sounds that are coming from your engine while it's vibrating...

i own a repair shop and if i was working on that one the first thing i would do is run a compression check on it,this will tell if it has any problems with a cylinder on it,because if it does have a cylinder down on it putting a CV joint in it isn't going to fix it,a bad mount will make one shake a little but yours from what you have said, sounds like it could have a dead miss-fire in it,and that will give a horrible shake have the compression check done,it may save you a lot of money in un-necessary repair bills, good luck i hope this help,s.

Does your engine light on the dash ,light up when engine running,? if not then your problem is most likely mechanical, Engine mount, CV joint,
