I heard that Corey Dillion is going to be release by the Pats by his request. How devastating will this be to the Pats. Is Maroney good enough to step in and be a number back and fill dillions void. Will thats now good rb the freeagency and maybe sign Dominik Rhodes, or chris brown?

Maroney will step up and handle the load. You could see Dillon's lost a step over the past year.

I could see them trying to get Rhodes as a backup. Or they could turn to the draft.

Bottom line though, Maroney's gonna have a huge year in 2007.

New England is ready to give the load to Maroney. I do see them picking up a back up...but not a Big name back up. Rhodes....nope. Brown....No Way...too many injury problems. Maybe Sams out of Baltimore .....or Shipp out of Arizona. This way they can have the additional cap room for a Top WR. After the AFC Championship loss to the Colts, Robert Kraft (owner of the patriots) has vowed to spend to the Salary Cap. Look for a few moves in the draft as they do have 2 first round picks, and look for them to hit the FA market pretty hard to add some youth their old Defensive Line and to pick up a rated Wide Out.

Man, It must suck to be Tom Brady right now. He lost Deion Branch, David Givens, David Patten, Ty Law, Willie Mcguisit, Adam Vinateri, and now Corey Dillion, plus Asante Samuel wants out or a new mega contract. These are the guys that won superbowls with him. At least Kevin Faulk is still there to be a 3rd down back.

Definitely...the loss of Dillon not only hurts them on the field, also in the locker room...the guy is a great presence and there hasn't done anything stupid during his time in NE. Maroney is good, but he was only as good as Dillon when they split time. I understand Dillon's wants to get more touches, but he's also getting old. But, in the Patriots standpoint, his contract wouldn't be too bad to get rid off, 10 touches shouldn't cost 5+ million...The Patriots won't get another RB, Maroney/Faulk should be fine...I suppose...

Dillon is retiring. The Pats agreed to release him, and he's already started paperwork with the league to retire. He's done, he's to injury-prone to do it another year, and with Maroney almost taking the starting job this year, I don't think they have a lot to worry about.

it will really be a ahame if Dillon leaves, i could understand his desire for being Patriots #1 starting running back. However, i am not sure if Maroney is able to take the big load. we will see, nonethess, Dillon should understand that he can't take all the carries for his age is obviously a big issue.

Murdoch? Is that you?......I'm just kidding.

Maroney looked good last year but I'm not sure if they can win with just him in the back field. However, there was a time when Antoine Smith was the starting back for Pats, so who knows.

Malroney really beat him out of his job. But, Bilichek likes to platoon his running backs, which is the only reason Dillon played. Plus, it typical of Dillon, when the losing starts he wants out and its everyone elses fault.

ESPN reported this morning that he wanted to retire while he was still in majorly good health a la Tiki Barber.
