As a teacher and a former student I disagree with standardized test to determine a student's fate regarding graduation. On one hand we are taught to accommodate individual learning styles enable equal opportunity for success, and then we are expected to support a uniformed test that assumes student exposure on various subjects. Another downfall of standardized test is the limitation it puts on day to day learning of character, social skills, etc. because so much emphasis is placed on material to pass the test. Although I myself took the test and passed on the first try, I still feel that one test should not have determined my future especially when my grades were far above average for the past 12 years. What if your child was in a similar situation?

Good idea. When I was in college, I was amazed at the number of students who didn't seem to have better grammar and speaking skills than a 6th grader would have. I'm amazed at the number of people, for example, that don't know the difference between "than" and "then". This screening process would make it a lot easier for universities and colleges.

I don't think so, I think they should just stick with graduating the students that passed classes. I mean, if you passed themmmmm then you know what you're doing. No need for exams that are are written so hard that you can't figure them out so you can't graduate even if you are a honor roll student.

yes why not???
ive been a student before and i hate taking tests.... but i dont understand why you would think students shouldnt. i mean if you pass- that means you're able and that you've learnt your materials. i mean if you cant pass a HS grad test... what makes you think that you can go to college and do well??

Yeah, and it should be for every grade. You should go forward based on ability, not age.
