Yes. If it can make the program more profitable to the school. Sports are generally the biggest money makers for any college...Especially a college or University that has teams that makes it in bowl games, or March Madness or other notable achievements.
I go to a University where the basketball team and the football team have excelled. The basketball team has been in March Madness the last 3 years! That type of exposure has made a lot of people more interested in coming to my school. Which, in turn has caused the school administrators to make huge changes at the school. They are bringing in better teachers, some of the programs have become better than Ivy League programs, new buildings and dorms are being built every year, and the economy is better. All of this is happening as a direct result of the basketball team.

It would irk me, but I see where it makes sense for them.

College athletic programs suck up a lot more money than the tuition of the participants. The extra has to come from somewhere. Add to that the fact that some of those participants aren't even PAYING tuition, and you see the problem.

No. The athletic proggys should be self supporting. Tuition is a fee charged for _teaching_ something. Athletics teaches jacks***. In my perfect world, there would be no sports games at all in colleges. Those who wish to play ball would go directly to the pros as apprentice and learn their 'trade' there.

No but they're going to raise it forever for stupid things.
For instance, my college is $360 per credit hour (it's just a 2 year college), they charge you for EVERYTHING including a $25 schedule change (on add and drop week!). So, even if they said it isn't for sports they'll say it's for something else just to get all the money they can out of you.

No- They should raise it for those who participate in athletic programs and not all the students.

no

let the alums pay for all the athletic programs

or else just leave the equipment there for whatever students want to play and exercise

I was at Umass, fat, old, wanting to play tennis just to get my blood flowing again. No chance to do it since everybody was sooooooooo serious about it.

Yes.

Without a top notch athletic program, major universities will miss out on TONS of exposure opportunities.

No way! Why should I have to pay extra for something I don't use or watch. Let the people who participate in sports pay more.

No...that's BS. College is for learning...sports are for recreational purposes.
