Between the three, the one I have been to most recently was Knott's Berry Farm, when I was 14. It depends, but I personally did not enjoy the ride availability (I prefer the rollercoasters, like at SixFlags). Knott's is a lot like a frontier-western themed park. Many things there are easy going, side-show typed. The only ride I fully remember was the Ghostrider. It was very shaky, just as a warning if you want to go there!
Disneyland is more likely to have a variety of things everyone will be ok with. You just have to get past the kiddy rides and giant Goofies. You may want to check their website for activities. Just remember, the place is HUGE and you will do miles of walking.
I haven't been to Universal Studios since I was a toddler, so I can't say much here, only that pretty much everything is based on movies.
I hope this was of some help, however, you should do some research and check out the websites of these parks. Have fun!

In the past when I lived in California, i've went to the mentioned theme parks & i've also been to Six Flags. Nowadays I'm chilling in the very warm tropical climate of Puerto Rico & we don't have any "super mega roller coasters" or "a water ride with a big splash at the end". Here I'm pretty lucked out on theme park choices although we do have carnivals, fairs & a water park that has a few cool slides (at the other side of the island). Ok, to help you out Flags would NOT be a good option considering the elder person on your party & the extreme rides they have. I don't remember much Universal, so I'm not really sure about it. Knotts Berry Farm was kinda ok to me back then( & sorta still is cause of Snoopy "my dawg"), but I'm sure if the 28 yr olds will feel the same. Disney is the best experience I had as a little boy with my grandma & again as a young boy & it kinda has "everything for everyone", including handicapped chairs, if there were to be needed or Animal Kingdom. If you want, run it down with them & ask them how they feel about your choices. Also you should find out if your party would feel about the extensive walking in any of the parks. Hope that helps, friend & have a blast!

My opinion is that Disneyland is best suited for groups with a wide age difference. There is plenty for everyone of every age. Get the park hopper pass so you can go to Disney's California Adventure too. Universal Studios is a little more geared toward slightly toward older kids (although 14 may be okay) and adults. Seaworld is great, but not for the weather forecast this weekend. Go there when it's a little warmer - at least 75 degrees, 80 is even better.

I think Disneyland is a pretty safe choice...it has a little something for everyone (ex. mild rides, roller coasters, shows, etc). And it's a classic.
Although Knott's is a also a favorite of mine, it's mainly just a lot of thrill rides and coasters now. If that's what your family is into, go for it!
Six Flags Magic Mountain could also be fun if you guys are into big coasters.
I've only been to Universal once and it was when I was 16 (12 years ago)...it seemed like it was alright.
There's also SeaWorld and the San Diego (or even L.A.) Zoo and Wild Animal Park.
How old is the elderly person going with you?

Roller coaster wise, Knott's Berry Farm rules over Universal and Disney.

My prefernce for amusement parks for a 28 and 14 year old is that you would rather go to Universal Studios cause Disneyland is for younger kids. I've been there.

I think that you should go to UNIVERSAL STUDIOS. Since you have a 28 year old if they like to go on ride there is rides that even adults will like. They have fast and exciting rides and more mellow rides. The 14 year old will also love it becuase the ride are great! It is also a very beautiful park and if you stay at one of the hotels like THE PORTIFONO it is the most beautiful hotel. There is just soo much to do there and the food is great. Disney world is the best place ever but i dont no if a 28 year old really would be interested by the rides and i never been to that other placE!! PLEASE GIVE ME POINTS!
