how to fold a filter paper ?

Fold the filter paper in half, again fold the filter paper to within about 10° of a 90° fold, tear off the corner unequally, and open.

why do we tear off the corner unequally ?

The tear enables a close seal to be made across the paper's folded portion when placed in a funnel.

This was probably to make it stay in a cone shape. Another way of doing this would have been to wet it after putting it in the funnel.
