It's not about being a coward, it's about showing some respect. Most people (other than you, apparently) do not want to see the actual words on the screen.

Well there are two reasons. 1- Sometimes it is the program or website that censors the text. If they recognize a curse word they replace it with symbols. 2- Sometimes to get around this people try and get creative using the symbols to spell out the curse words instead. This way it won't be recognized as swear words. Such as using '$' as an 's', '#' as an 'h', etc

Every time I use a curse word, I have to replace a letter with a symbol, otherwise Y! Answers will censor the whole word. Example: sh!t or sh*t. If I don't sel-censor, then the same word will appear as ****. The other option is to space between the letters, but that gets tiresome. Example: s h i t.

The companies that host the pages you see that on have censors that block that from being displayed. They type in the word but it doesn't show up on the screen after they display it. Like on here when you type a word that is considered by yahoo as a foul word, it will censor it and cover it up with symbols like the ones you chose to use as your example.

no hun, i'm sorry. i've got no longer got here upon a curse for somebody to stutter. attempt going as much as them and say some words in latin, and end it with, "you will STUTTER on your SPEECH" and attempt and trick them into stuttering. scare them slightly, maybe it will artwork, yet i do no longer understand of an actual curse.

well why don't you type a curse word and than see what happens. The letters will automatically be turned into stars etc.

No. Yahoo! Answers does it. I guess they have some kind of sifter of propriety because I always spell out the word and then when I submit it, it had become stars.
