I thik a psych degree is so worthless since I can't find a job. Should I go back to school or should I just take a crappy job at a supper market? Also unless you are willing to go for a Master or PHD in Psych, don't get anything in social sciences. That is my only advice for others who think you should get a Psych degree, It is worthless in the real world.

Dam, that sucks! I always quietly thought that (worthless) about some of those questionable majors (to include but not limited to psychology). I guess I shouldn't say worthless, maybe just less "marketable" instead. No college degree should ever be considered worthless. However, why didn't you research it first before choosing that major in college? Maybe you can try hotjobs or monsterjobs if you haven't already. I think you are right about the PhD and Masters, most psychology majors go for that (either or) after their bachelors, or law school. Have you thought about law? I am currently in the MBA program (University of Houston) and have some psychology majors in my class, that might be yet another option. Well, sorry to hear this is happening to you, good luck!

I have a degree in psychology and I don't think its worthless, you just aren't a "psychologist." To be a psychologist you have to either get a masters in school psychology or a PhD in any other psychology specialty.

I knew that before I graduated though, so I minored in Chemical Addictions Counseling. Now I just have to work 4000 hours supervised and I can test to become a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC), and if I ever decide to get a masters degree I can even open my own drug treatment clinic.

Other friends I know have gotten jobs with just a bachelors as case management workers.

And there are lots of jobs you can get outside the field with just a bachelors, like in financial institutions and administrative work.

It sounds like you're the product of either a bad advisor, or bad career days at your university.

im also a psych undergraduate. n i have seniors who've graduated with psych degrees too. even others like sociology and social work. but they are all settled happy and comfortable with their current jobs which totally has nothing to do with their major at all. so i feel that there is actually a job out dere for you but u just have not found it yet. furthermore, if u were so interested in psychology to have taken a degree, why not try to further your studies to get a doctorate degree so you can practice what you are passionate about? jus my opinon. hope you will find a job soon :)

I have a Psychology degree and there are entry level positions in which you qualify. Most of them are non-profit such as Boys and Girls of America. I have been teaching English/ Psychology in Houston for the past 5 years and I love it. I encourage anyone with a genuine interest in behavior and mental processes to pursue a degree in social sciences. I think it is important to research your career path before making the decision to take a particular path. Otherwise you limit your options and also end up stuck in a field that isn't intellectually stimulating.

No its not worthless but using it for psychology with anything but a masters minimum is not realistic. Psych majors should either be going for a MS or more or have a second major.

Maybe you could use it in business?
