After every feeding and especially if you miss a feeding. Pump for 10 minutes or 2 minutes after the last drop, which ever is longer.

And if you're only getting an ounce that's fine, your baby just ate the rest of it. Save that ounce and add it to the next ounce you pump. Just make sure you refrigerate the new ounce separately before adding it to the already refrigerated ounce.

Congrats on your new baby and on breastfeeding!

The best time to pump is in the morning.
I would pump after feeding the baby, just to be safe!

The key to getting enough milk is consistency. If you pump at the same time every day your body will adjust to that and eventually you will be getting more than an ounce. My friend would sometimes get 10 ounces!

Your baby can get milk from you better than any pump...

What I used to do is "steal" an ounce or two before a feeding with the pump and then let the baby go to town...that way at the end of the day I had at least a bottle or two worth to freeze...

And no my baby isn't starving...he's a little pork chop...4 months and he weighs 18.6 pounds and he's 26 inches tall....

Also pump when he's napping ...the more you nurse/pump...the more milk you'll make.

I found the best time to pump was about an hour after the first morning feed. It took about a week for there to be a noticable increase in quantity.
I would only do it once a day or you might have some milk issues...

While baby is on one side be pumping the other one. Baby has the flow going good by then. I get out about 4oz or 5oz that way. Every time baby feeds, pump with baby on the other side. Baby helps the flow....Your body would get used to the pumping therefore it would not have to work so hard when you just pump without baby. It would know how to react. I learned that for my local WIC office.

Just remember, the more you feed and pump, the more milk you will produce. It is a supply and demand thing. Try pumping in between feedings.

My sister was told it is better to pump before feeding. This will make it easier for the baby to latch on if you are full and it will cause you to produce more milk.

I always pumped first thing in the morning, my breasts were always the fullest then - about 1 to 2 hours before the baby woke up.
