In the days of Yore it was Sarojini Naidu.

But then MS Subbulakshmi or Lata Mangeshkar or why not Chitra or S Janaki or Vani Jayaram, Alka Yagnik and so on and so forth. India is a land of Nightingales so it is no longer a preserve of a single person anymore.

At first the title was given to sarojini naidu , then 'lata mangeshkar' was honoured with the same .
And at present i think it should be given to 'shreya ghoshal'
