An unsuccesful innovation of Leonardo's was to paint on a dry plaster wall instead of painting quckly onto wet plaster as was the norm (ie. fresco painting) to produce the Last Supper in Milan.

Leonardo's innovation meant a higher quality painting, but was ultimately a disaster as the painting almost instantly started to deteriorate.

Da Vinci was a Artist, Architect, researcher and inventor. He sketched and painted some of the most fascinating works of Art. His sketches have been innovative in the world of Biological Sciences and Architectual ideas. There are a few web sites, but I found the book called Leonardi Da Vinci by Carlo Pedretti very informative.

The helicopter, you can see this in his sketches. Also the swing bridge. These are just two of them; Leonardo lived in the time of Columbus, which makes those two inventions pretty amazing!
