Is it just alcohol, or can people have their license suspended for illegal drugs, or abusing prescription drugs behind the wheel?

From what I know, it always seems to be alcohol related, and I don't think it's fair if someone is barely over the legal limit and very slightly drunk compared to someone snorting crack or heroin, or heavily sedated, even if prescribed.

What do you all know/ think?

You can be arrested for driving under the influence of ANY drug, legal or illegal, if it impairs you ability to operate the vehicle. True, drunk drivers seem to get the most attention in the media. In fact, where I live, you can lose your license for 6 months for simply possessing drugs in your car, regardless of whether you are using them or not.

I think that it depends on the state law, but at least a few of the states I've lived in, if you are convicted of a drug offense then your license is suspended.

Hey I kind of understand where you are coming from about the alcohol can't be compared to herion or crack, but, but really, any of those drugs impare your ability to drive and the reality is someone that drinks and drives is putting their life and other people lives in danger.

Other drugs too.

Not think, KNOW.

Only the guy on crack, he isn't driving cause he sold the car. And the guy on pot, he isn't driving cause hes rolling around on the floor laughing at a lampshade, or else zoned out going "huuuuuuuuuuh?"
And the dude on pills fell off the front porch in a rocking chair.
I swear he did.
It was MY porch.

Really, someone on most other drugs is slightly less likely to get behind the wheel than someone drunk.
But yeah, if you aren't in a condition to drive, you can get ticketed or arrested, even if it's only because your infant kept you up all night and you're tired.
Dangerous driving is illegal driving.....and then it just comes down to who gets caught.

You can get your license suspend for a lot of things, not just alcohol. Alcohol is just one of the most common problems, that's why it seems like its the only thing.

ANY law you break behind the wheel can get your license suspended. If the fault was yours or if your not in the right state of mind will contribute to losing your license.

Well, if they're barely over the limit - they sholdn't drive. No excuse. I know a 4 year old boy who was killed by a "barely over the limit driver."
No, if you get caught with crack or heroin - they don't have to take your license. You're in jail. That's the difference.

Any arrest and conviction of a felony should be immediate grounds for deportation of both legal and illegal immigrants. People that don't follow the laws of the land should not have a right to live here.
