The only people that think environmentalism isn't important are too ignorant to understand its basic concepts.

My degree is in Environmental Conservation from the University of New Hampshire..

I suggest any of you who do not understand the concept of Global Warming to study some chemistry especially the property of "green house gases." That would give you an understanding of why these gases trap heat, and why they ruin the pristine state of an environment...

.. Or you could remain ignorant and uninformed..

..The revolution will not be televised.. So turn off FOX NEWS CHANNEL and understand the REAL WORLD around you.

The science degree should help you sort the issues objectively. But it's no guarantee.

A degree in meteorology would be even better...

You're an uninformed jerk for calling people who don't buy into global warming ignorant. Let's see if you can understand some BASIC concepts.

There are plenty of REAL scientists that will say, we don't know if mankind is affecting global warming. Or that the effect is minimal. Why go to the extreme? Why believe that we're causing global warming? Why always look at the disastrous concequences? What about the benefits of increased C02? Do you even know what C02 is?

Remember, Al Gore wrote a book and stated that cow flatulence was a HUGE contributor to global warming.

Here's an excerpt from the last link provided. A very well written scientific, economic article.

"Other observers-including many leaders of the environmental movement - extend this logic to a more radical conclusion. They believe that pollution and waste are so pervasive and threatening that government must either socialize the economy, taking full control of industry to end pollution, or force an end to industrial/technological market society itself in order to save the human race. "

Why not pick a cause that you can actually have a positive impact pusuing?

I'm a conservationist, not an environmentalist. I am a realist and an optimist also.

Why can't weatherman tell you what the weather will be like in 3 weeks, to a month, but they can tell me what it was a 100 yrs ago? Why do the scientists who tell me that we are causing global warming want to ignore the 1940's, and the middle ages when temperatures were hotter than they are now? Why are temperatures lower today than they were 4 yrs ago? Why were the same scientists claiming we were entering an ice age 30yrs ago? If someone told you to jump off a bridge... Global warming is still much better than global cooling. Let's heat this earth up a bit IMO.

I don't have a science degree, but to make the assumtion that I do not have the intelligence to understand the argument is ignorant on your part and a true show of the arrogance of people that think like you.

If you would like to hear what at least one person with a science degree has to say about Climate Change click this link. This is the Head Climatologist of the state of Oregon.

Ah...I see, you got to have a degree in science to dispute or believe in global warming! What? The earth has warmed up 1/2 of 1 degree in the last 200 years and I got to have a degree to understand this?

What do you mean, 'believe in'? Your overly simplistic and absolutist phrasing tells me that you, yourself, have little or no scientific understanding of the topic; it would appear you are merely trolling for support of your preconceived beliefs.

*Real* scientists (such as yours truly) understand that while average global temperature has increased in recent years, it is also the case that a) the exact degree of human impact is at best undetermined, and b) past periods of global warming and cooling - some of significantly greater magnitude - have taken place when humans could not possibly have been involved.

Al Gore has, as usual, engaged in exaggeration and outright lies in promoting his own dogmatic cult. (Such as the totally fake polar bear animation that would disqualify his 'documentary' if it weren't a PC cause celebre'.) And yes, I do mean 'dogmatic' as in religious. Mr. Gore has effectively no scientific credentials whatsoever; he did, however, fail out of divinity school before failing out of law school. And, like most religious demagogues, he is a hypocrite to his own teachings. His 'scientific' writings are clearly religious in nature; he starts with a preconceived end and then invents convoluted rationalizations to 'prove' it. It's enough to make real scientists puke.

i think that there might be one in the world, and at this point, he probably works for the bush admin.

how the global warming debate heated up is an interesting story.

a few years ago, some large tobacco companies wanted to try to throw some legitimate research at the idea that second hand smoke was bad for you - so they HIRED some scientists to do research that would have that conclusion.

they thought it would be transparant if they only investigated this one thing, so they sort of randomly chose another likely topic for this kind of backwards crap-science.

they chose global warming...

How about environmental engineering?

It's not a matter of belief like believing in Semiramis the Goddess. It's more akin to Spring time. It does not require any faith for the days to get longer and warmer.

It does not require any faith for the earth to get 1.7 degrees warmer in 100 years.

Go big Red Go

What does having a degree have to do with common sense. Let's not forget in 950AD a majority of scientists in Europe be lived the Earth was flat

Well, there is another group who "think environmentalism isn't important" and those are the people who would disagree with a Democrat if their car was on fire and the Democrat was trying to drag them out of it.

"NO! NO! NO! I WON'T DO IT SIMPLY BECAUSE IT'S *YOU* SAYING TO DO IT!!"

You know?

P.S. For the poster who claimed "his roommate" said that "one eruption" from a volcano was "more than we'd done thus far" sorry, pal, that's simply inaccurate. Or a lie, take your pick.
