If the customer says that they will only pay a certain price, then the supplier, Chinese or other nationality may have to cut corners or say they cannot do it. Not wanting to lose face or lose the customer, many times the supplier will honor the price the customer says they will pay. When that happens, you run the risk of a sub-quality product.

No one, not even the Chinese, would sell knowingly defective product. There's a rep to uphold, even if it is cheap stuff. Besides, once you know what you're paying for, you account for it.

But as long as the myopic American consumer chases the cheapest-priced item, the race to the bottom continues.
