I used to work in a law firm in LA, and assisted with a name change. First of all, you should be 100% sure you want to change your name. Take into consideration all of the documents and licenses you may need to change. It can be really frustrating for you, especially if you're not bent on doing it in the first place. After that, it's just a simple form that the attorney files with the Clerk of Court, and then it's up to the judge to approve or deny it. It'd probably be approved, barring unusual circumstances behind the request. You may not need an attorney to file it for you, but your best bet would be to call one to ask if you can file it on your own, and if not, what's the best flat rate they can offer you to do it. If you need help finding the right attorney(s) to call, you can visit the LA State Bar Association's website (www.lsba.org).

You have to go to a Lawyer and pay between two to three hundred dollars and have a Judge do it. The ruling will be your new birth certificate that will allow you to change all of your ID Legal documents.

I'm not sure you need to go through a lawyer. Call your local courthouse and inquire. They can point you in the right direction. You do need to fill out forms and go before a judge or have a judge approve it.
