the wood is about 15mm thick the circle has a diameter of 24inches

I think this is what UK was saying, but you can either draw a circle by driving a nail or tack in the approximate center of your wood...tie a loop at one end of a piece of string and slip it over the nail....then tie a pencil to the other end about 12" away...(holding the pencil upright) draw a circle with the string held taut (...then cut on the pencil line with a jigsaw).
... or you could maybe attach the jigsaw itself to the end of the string (instead of the pencil), but don't know if you could make that work as well.

Draw a circle and use a jigsaw. I have done very accurate circles by putting a hole in the middle of the wood and rotating it with a hole in the centre through a band saw

Make a guide to hold the jig saw at one end, and screw the other end of the guide to the center of the square, just an offcut of yout 15mm board will do, make it as long as u need it.

Find the centre draw your circle . And use a jig saw to cut it out.

you can use a large head for a pillar drill. that will help!!
