It depends on point of view - some people are not only comfortable but actually volunteer to get an ID chip implanted. I personally find it intrusive as hell but in a tragic circumstance may come handy. They have means to follow you everywhere you go, and who knows where this info ends up - marketers, and all crooks willing to pay may have access to it. I hear all the time "I have nothing to hide" thing that I strongly disagree with - my privacy is one of the most important things for me. Again, it's a matter of priorities.

I can read a paper map just fine, or my hand-held GPS. I think onstar is a good "foot in the door" for Big Brother government and cops to track us, wherever we go.... and listen in on private conversations in the car (the hands-free mic for the phone is remotely controlled by them). No thank you for OnStar for me!

I think it is a very good idea , however I found it much too expensive. I have a cell phone anyway and for me personally it was pricey . Sure , they can unlock your car in case you get locked out, but how often in a lifetime does that happen ! Especially if you did that once and learned your lesson .
And how often does one need directions to find an address . No, like I said. It is a good thing in a way but cost too much .

The "best invention" for 2 reasons and soon to be 3 reasons.
1. If your vehicle is stolen it can be located ANYWHERE in the world.
2. In case of an accident, "your car" will call for help.
And soon to be No# 3. Hands Free Cell Phone use.
This is going to become a law and the auto makers and cell phone companies will be (are) right on top of it!

It can be used against you in an accident if your doing something wrong (speeding etc), although almost all new cars since 1995 have had on board data logging built into ECU
