i have a windows xp and when i put a disk in the disk drive nothing happens i double click the my computer icon and then the dvd-rw icon but still nothing happens please help me

It would be more help with a bit more information, have you tried the creating a shortcut to the CD, clicking on it when you require some CD info. Have you deleted anything or have you got a second hand laptop? There are any number of questions, but to solve this you should reinstall the drive from a floppy disk.

did this just start happening? have you added anything new to your computer, ie other hardware or software? I assume that the door opens when you press the button so but does the light stay on? If you go into my computer and look at your drives does the cd-rom show up there? If not then you may want to open you computer and check to see if the ribbon cable has been disconnected.

This happened to me the other week. I turned it off overnight and it worked the next day. Good luck.

The disk is damaged, blank or the wrong way up :-)
