ok, my daughter's doctor is out this week, and she happens to get a mild case of diahria. I have been giving her electrolyte water, and she seems to be getting better, but when i introduce a formula bottle (Enfamil Gentle-Ease) she seems to have a diahria diaper. But if i dont give her one, then she seems fine. I have a feeling its the milk based formula. Should i just go ahead and skip the bottles and go with a more regular diet, like when she turns 1. Does anyone have any good suggestions or if you have been through something simliar before, please tell me! Thanks ahead of time

Well she isnt teething, we have already gone through that and she never really had diahria, so i guessing its not that. Do ya think it would be a bad idea to go ahead and start feeding her like i would a toddler, without the formula. liquids and foods, like a regular diet. Thanks

Go ahead and give her the BRAT diet for a day or so...(Bananas, Rice, applesauce and toast), it's great for diarrhea. If she's almost 1 year, then you should already start and slowly introduce solids starting about now, so it would be a fine time to start. I would lay off any formula or milk for a day or so and just give her the electrolyte water as long as she's drinking it....dairy is very hard on the digestive system. You need to give her system a chance to heal or kick-out whatever little bug she's caught. Good luck!

I am not a doctor and a doctors advice would be best in this case - but we did just go througha bought of a virus and you said it was mild.

A few big things to keep in mind - the big risk here is dehydration ( assuming it' s just anormal run of the mill virus) - are your child's diapers wet? If so- then they are most likely at least getting enough fluids - Is your child acting normally? making sounds, smiling, etc? If not and your child is sluggish, etc.. you need to be more concerned and get medical advice ASAP.

Our doctor said that You can mix pedialyte- electrolyte water with the formula to reintroduce it slower- maybe your child is still fighting this bug and can't yet handle all the milk protein in the formula. Try mixing the two and see how that goes... then go back to just formula as it gets better.

If it is more than a few days however- go see an alternate doctor- they have to have somebody on call - and if your child shows signs of dehydration or becomes lathargic in nay way- get to a hospital so they can get fluids in them ...

If she's already eating a variety of foods I would say continue with this and don't give her any dairy until your doctor gets back. It won't hurt her to not have milk for a few days. Dairy will worsen diarrhea in any case, and you should also avoid alot of fruit juice as it will have the same effect. No orange juice at all, and water down apple, pear, grape, cranberry or pineapple juice (or whatever you normally give her) half and half, and the electrolyte drinks are good but you may want to try powerade or gatorade...same thing but waaaay cheaper. This way she is still gatting plenty of fluids. And if you can get her to drink plain water, go for it! In the mean time watch for signs of dehydration, and if you see anything unusual (lethargy, sunken eyes etc,) take her to ER right away. Dehaydration can work very quickly on an infant. Hope that helps!

It's been a few years since my son was that young, but I'm assuming that your daughter is not teething--that could be the culprit. If not, the water is great, but she still needs milk. If it's only a day or two until the doctor gets back, and she's not running too high of a fever, I'd wait--doesn't your doctor have an emergency line? If not, and it will still be a while until your doctor gets back, I'd go to a 24 urgent care.

my son had a real bad case of gastroentiris a few months back. the doctor told me to cut out all dairy products from the diet. to make sure that the child is having plenty of clear fluids. the only fruit that you should give is apple. 7up or sprite that has been left to go flat is very helpful particularly if the child wont drink anything else. you can also give dry toast or plain biscuits, and rice or pasta without any cheese. hope this helps. if you do notice that it gets worse then you should go to another doctor
good luck

Put her on regular 2% milk and you can add Vitamin D drops. I had the same problem with my daughter. As soon as I put her on regular milk, she was fine.Or if you think it is the milk base, then you can try Carnation Good Start. Or just put her back on regular formula until your doctor gets back.

There should be a doctor on call for your doctor that is out.

I'm with you, it maybe the formula, but if she's 11 months old, she's been on it for awhile now anyways, sooo...is this the first time she's had diarhea with it? If no, then I'd look for some other reason...

It could be that maybe she's cutting a a jaw tooth, sometimes it causes babies to have runny bowels...

Your baby could be lactose intolerant. Even though they aren't born with it they can develop it later. I would check with the doctor and they will probably switch your child over to soy based instead of milk based formula.

This will sound weird - but its true. Apple juice. It works to constipate if constipated and works to stop diarrhea when there is diarrhea
