I know it is in cheerleading but what is it??

a herkie is a jump that was named after Lawrence Herkimer, who started the first cheerleading company and ran the first cheerleading camp in the 1940's. It's also commonly called the side hurdler.

when performing the herkie, you kick one leg out straight to the side so that it is parallel with the ground, and you bend your other leg so that the knee is pointing to the ground.

sometimes the herkie is performed with the knee of the bent leg facing to the front rather than to the ground.

WOW...breaking this down in words was quite a task!

the factor is cheerleaders do Toe Touches a lot and that i will assure it is going to area of tryouts. attempt doing approximately 10 jumps an afternoon perchance swap btw herkies and toe touch or do the two 10 circumstances. It helped me a lot.

It is a jump in cheerleading similar to a hurdler jump. It is where one leg is kicked up straight in front of the body while the opposite leg is bent and tucked back and to the side of the body. Hope this helps.... it kind of sounds confusing.
