Breastfed babies tend to feed more often than formula babies. They say every 3-4 hours for breastfeeding. If your baby is gaining weight and doing well in all other areas, I wouldn't worry if it is 4 hrs between feedings instead of 3. If you do go longer than that, your milk production can suffer. Try pumping if you miss a feeding. It is a supply and demand thing.

Feeding on demands means to feed him whenever he indicates he's hungry. Crying is a late sign of hunger so pay attention and learn your babies signs for hunger. Usually sucking on the hands is the first indication, then they usually vocalize and then cry.
A pacifier should not be used to extend the time between feedings.
If your baby is only demanding to be fed every 4 hours than it's not necessary to make it happen sooner.
If you are worried about milk supply you can pump in between feedings and store the milk. The more demand on the milk supply the more your body should make.

8 week old babies are prime time for growing. I see no harm in nursing a child when its hungry. As for you, see how it plays out. If it becomes painful then allow a longer break between feedings and talk to your OB. I'm an EMT and I've never really heard of a problem like that, but that's me. Women can breast feed for as long as they need to so I wouldn't see how they couldn't adapt to a supply change :). Hopefully your eating healthy food and drinking plenty of fluids and I wouldn't worry about it.

Hope this helps.

Newborns usually eat very often every 4-6 hours so i am pretty sure it is normal if you are having a lot of pain why don't you try pumping and feeding him/her from a bottle once or twice a day but it is still your breast milk and may help. Good luck many blessings.

I fed on demand!!! And it was usually about every 3 hours...but its all up to your baby. if you feel like your supply is going to suffer, then you may want to try to pump

I have been told that you base your feedings on what your child tells you they need. As long as he is feeding with regularity I wouldn't worry.

4 hour feeds tend to be the alternative to on demand. He'll let you know if it's not enough, trust me!!

Feed on demand... don't watch the clock, watch your baby.

You should feed him on demand...

And if he doesn't eat often enough...pump.

Congratulations
