Sean R. Don't listen to negative people like Gingerpeachy. Go for it. Practise will never make perfect but it will improve your skills and knowledge.

And to Gingerpeachy. If you are so all knowledgeable, how come you have such a low percentage of Best Answers? Could it be that you massively overrate yourself. If you continue to abuse people on this forum, I will drive you away!

I doubt it's the best one of all time, as you would be competing with the likes of the greatest short story writers down through history, such as Capote, Fitzgerald, and countless others. That genre' is hardly being published today (the short story) regardless of all the nonsense you read in Writer's Market, and the market for the SS is nearly defunct. Now you can sulk like the rest of the teens because I didn't tell you that the world is waiting for your brilliance, your genius, and your magnificent work. All you kids want ego stroking and seem to be living in a fantasy world of your own making. I hate to think what is going to happen when you have to enter the real world and a get a real job. I think you are in for some nasty surprises. BTW: The poster who told you she had seven books published actually went through the vanity publishing route and that is not real publishing. On line and vanity publishing are one and the same thing. You pay to have your work published and they publish any and everything, no matter how bad. There is no such thing as an Eppie Award except of course, in the fantasy land of vanity and on line publishing, which again, is not considered real publishing, just soothing and stroking of the egos of people who want recognition so desperately they are willing to pay for it! You notice you have never heard of her book (unless of course, you have read it on one of those cheesy on line sites). This is considered at the most, "printing" but never actual publishing, regardless of how people try and delude themselves and everyone else!

Send it out to print publications and get paid for it in money/print or online, or all of the above. It's a great start in becoming a novelist too. Everyone says they wrote the best short story. It'll only be judged by the people. That's just your opinion.

Pick up a copy of Writers Market and start submitting your story to magazines.
