Sure it happens all the time, you take some boards and some nails and make a house, or fabric and thread and vuala! You have a beautiful dress.

If it's two of the same thing, and you combine them to make one big thing, I guess it would be larger AND greater.

However, if the things are as different as apples & oranges, I think you would ruin both of them by trying to compress them into one.
