There are 3 types of Tango commonly danced in the US: International, American and Argentine. Argentine differs a lot from American and International by the way you stand, produce movement and by the resulting general picture. Your upper bodies are in closer conection in argentine tango, while lower bodies have a lot more freedom. Your weight is on the balls of your feet, very much forward-poised. It has very sensual look to it. In International, your weight is on your heels, wich produced much sharper, staccato movement. Some say that Tango is dance of a fighting couple. I think it is said about International Tango. American Tango is the most show-like, very dramatic. The stance is similar to International, but you don't remain in closed embrace all the time. Sometimes you separate one hand, sometimes you separate completely from your partner to produce beautiful lines.

It is not difficul to learn, and it is a lot of fun.

I thoroughly enjoy American tango. International and Argentine are nice, but I don't have a lot of experience with either. The difficulty level of any dance is mostly a matter of how good you want to be and how much training and practice you want to invest.

Every start is difficult. Its difficult to find the balance with partner, to communicate with him/her. One has to lead, the other one should follow. Both roles are difficult, but leading is a bit more because the leader has to create dance, be clear in demands and protect the partner from crashing on milonga's floor. During the learning don't dance with one partner only, because you will never become good dancer. And try to learn both roles: leading and following. That's the way to learn how to be sensitive partner. That's the best way to become good dancer. In life too...:)
