All things considered, the safest and most user-friednly virus protection software has got to be Symantec AntiVirus (or Norton Antivirus). It will cost you some jingle but its well worth it to keep your computer in tip-top shape. I know a couple computer buffs who live by it.

To some extent it depends on your needs. For a free antivirus Avast www.avast.com is the most efficient with a high detection rate. AVG has a low detection rate but it is fast and uses very little system resources. In other words, it won't slow down your computer.

If money isn't an issue, Kaspersky is by far the best antivirus. It has the highest detection rate and rates number 1 in EVERY test I've ever seen. It is also good on system resources.

Norton and McAfee are the worst on system resources. They will bog down your system and slow your computer to a crawl. Norton also makes it take much longer to start your computer. For detection and removal Norton is good, but McAfee is terrible. There are also viruses that target these two since they are the most popular.

free antivirus program normally can only detect but unable to remove the infected files. else it is not strong enough and they might be a virus themselves.... if really got such a good free program... the companies like norton, trends.. can just close down.

if it is becos of cost($$) you are looking for a free software.. i recommend you to try Cyber Scrub Antivirus. it comes with a 5 years subscription fee waived, you need not renew its license yearly for 5 years with just one year cost.

I vote for Avast. I haven't had any problems since I installed it.
I used to have Norton and it royally messed up my computer.. I know about 5 other people that have had the same problem. Mind you, it worked fine for the first 10 months or so that I had it.. I think most of them are good as long as you keep updated and use common sense when using email and websites.
