I am on a compettitive swim team. While swimming Freestyle and butterfly , I havent been able to move my arms fast, just this one slow steady pace. Also my arms will hurt when they are bieng liffted out of the water, and they also feel really heavy. Some days it is worse than others. May time added 7 seconds in 1 month. The pain goes up the side of my arm to my shoulder

Is this normal? What can I do about it? What is happening? Should I talk to my coach about it?

You added 7 seconds in one month ??? What distance were you doing ?? I hope it was not a 50! This is not normal. It sounds like what happened to me when I had thyroid disease. It came on very slowly. I kept forcing and I could not understand what was happening. Finally, I could just swim slowly and my arms were so heavy. The pain in your arm might be from forcing too hard and not accepting that you have a health problem. Get a blood test and full work-up. If your coach has not noticed yet, he is not too serious about his job.

During the butterfly if your arms don't move quick enough your arms don't come out of the water very well.

if your arms hurt maybe u should skip a day or two until your arms fell better. Or if you don't swim often you should swim if you can every day.

It is not normal. Talk to your coach and see a doctor. You could have an injury related to training. What you describe is similar to what happens to some baseball pitchers during weight training. They lose range of motion if they are not alternating stretching or over lifting. I would say, if it is one arm you could possibly have a shoulder injury but since it is both arms it may be related to over training. To put it simply, your arms are tired - let them sleep.

But see a doctor to make sure.

See a Medical Doctor NOW! The only soreness you should have in your arms (Butterfly) is maybe some muscle, even then it is minimal.

Your probably swimming incorrectly, this happens to a lot of swimmers, so first go to a physiotherapist he will probably say lay off the free and fly and he will probably give shoulder strengthening exercises which use stretch cords.

The regular past tense of “swim” is “swam”: “I swam to the island.” However, when the word is preceded by a helping verb, it changes to “swum”: “I have swum to the island every day.” Have is the helping verb here, therefore "swum" should be used. Swam and swum are both past tense. Swim is present tense and future tense.
