It's just a sign of the times. Nowadays, geeks only forecast the weather. They don't tell it on tv.
If you prefer to see the weather geek instead of the weather babe, then you are amongst very few. Like the other answerer said, it gets ratings because men, women, cats and dogs love to look at a beautiful woman. It's how the television station pays their bills and it's just smart business.
It's like the movies. The beautiful actress on the big screen didn't write her lines. Somebody else did. They've been casted for special reasons and there is all sorts of unseen genius behind the scenes making her look and sound good.
What is really a treat is when you get the beauty AND the brains as your weather girl and I'm fortunate enough to have that where I live. And after all, with all the bad news we watch everyday, a bit of sunshine doesn't hurt anyone.

Must be in your region. Weather channel rocks and it is not full of supermodel chicks. Though they can be looked at without getting the juck factor.
Though it is better to sell when a supermodel tells the weather. We all know that the geeks are the true hero's but we are human and rather have a hot chick or guy tell us the weather information.
Don't agree-Why do people want that hot sports car instead of a rusted ugly but reliable stationwagon.

No one will watch weather anymore or really cares to as they can't get it right even if they are looking out the window. So why not go for five minutes of bouncy T & A. People are just sick.

Because, like any segment of the news, it's all about ratings. The more people that watch the news, the more they can charge advertisers, and the more money the station makes.
Sadly, it's not always about intelligence or accuracy.

Many of those "weather babes" are real meteorologists. They just happen to look good and are smart too. Don't be chauvinist and don't hate on women who are both intelligent and beautiful!
