Does the unit POST? (Beep) It could be a bad screen, loose cable or faulty video card. None of which the average Joe could work on. If it doesn't POST, I'd say video card is not working. Many laptops have an integrated video card on the main board, which means the whole board would have to be changed. How old is the unit? If under 3 years, it's worth fixing. If under 2 years it may still be warranted. If it's older, it may not be worth fixing. New laptop prices have become pretty reasonable in the last few years.

I would recommend taking it to a computer repair expert. It could be one of several things, The screen is broken/a wire is loose inside the computer/The graphics card is malfunctioning (highly unlikely,)/Or maybe the brightness is turned way down. If it is a pc, there should be an FN key. Hold the FN key and look for a little logo that sort of lloks like a mechanical wheel you see in many electronics. While holding the FN key, press that "mechanical wheel" like button (the one that has an up arrow) several times and see if your screen brightens. If not, take it to the repair man.

This could be a couple of things, starting with a bad screen. If you have another monitor hook it up to your laptop and see if it comes on then. I would also try to press your function key and the key to switch from internal screen to external screen, I think, either F4 or F5. You can lastly try to see if your contrast and brightness have been turned down. I would try to turn them up after you know the computer is on.

maybe your screen back light is burned/ broken. I have an HP and it had happened 2 times in 2 years already, each year it decides to burn out. The back light is just a "fluorescent" bulb inside the screen that allows to see the screen... if you have warranty, send it back to where you bought it or to HP, they will replace the screen or the bulb and should not charge more than the shipping/ handling
