I haven't lived at home for over ten years. I STILL have books at my parents' house! I feel your pain.

Buy some large stackable plastic totes (you can get them at WalMart cheap!) and start boxing them up. Make a list of what books you put in which totes. That way, if you want to reread a book later, you can easily find it.

I do something like this at work. We have huge files we have to save in case of audits. I have an excel spreadsheet that lists each box (Numbered 1, 2, 3, etc) and what is in each box. That way I can sort the list quickly at any time, know which box to look in, and find the file. You can do the same thing with books!

Probably what bothers your parents is not so much that you like to keep your books but that they are everywhere. you need to keep them on bookshelves and you might need to ask your parents to help you with buying or building more shelves so you can keep your books together nice and neat, not all over the house. and while it's great to keep favorite books, to be fair, you might just go through your books and take ones you are REALLY not likely to re-read and donate them to a library or something.
good luck!

You may need to have e-books or podcasts of books that will appease the rents and you can take them more places.

Keep a select few and get rid of the rest (library, used book stores) or find a better way to store them so that the rents will be pleased!
