I know there are a lot of good films around with brilliant actors, and all have enough money to last them a lifetime, but why do these PR people think they should receive these very expensive goody bags. Its not as if they need the presents, so why isnt the money put into something more worthwhile. I have even read some so-called "A list" celebs get a gob on if they dont get a pressie. How sad is that.

Because it's considered to be a gift, that's how they get round not paying tax on it. They also come out with the old chestnut of offering their services free for charity - wrong - they get a goodie bag instead which sometimes can be worth thousands.

It must be that the suppliers of the goods hope the actor will wear or use their goods, cheaper than hiring the actor to advertise them. I suspect the actors use the goodies for birthday and Christmas presents.

The products in the goody bags want advertisement so when the celebs carry their products around other people want to buy them.

Because they have money and the companies think if the celebrity likes it they will buy more.
