its very normal...it can be caused by boredom or stress. the horse may also be lacking enought salt in its diet add a salt block and spend somemore time with your horse you should see an improvement it may not stop all together but it should lessen the amount of gnawwing it does.

Some horse do chew on wood. I have seen barns where they put metal strips around the edges of all the stalls so the horses cannot chew the wood.

some horses do that. You might want to try putting a salt block in the corral with your horse. Sometimes they just need the natural salt in the wood.
Sometimes they also chew wood out of boredom. If the salt block doesn't help, then just try spending more time with him, grooming and talking.

horses chew on wood it is a sign of bordem hang some toys in his/her stall or get some stuff to put on the wood that would taste really bad to the horse so it stops chewing

2 options:
Lacking minerals
Boredom
Both of those are easily fixed. Make sure your horse has access to a salt and mineral block at all times. And provide your horse with more stimulation in the form of toys, sweet licks, more work, etc.

It's normal, in the sense that a lot of horses do it, but you shouldn't let them. You can get something called a Miracle Collar that might help.
