Because they either have names that are too common, boring, or embarassing. Eva Pigford=Eva Marcelle. Jamie Foxx=Eric Bishop. Brad Pitt=William Bradley Pitt. Tom Hanks=Thomas Jeffrey Hanks. Winona Ryder=Winona Laura Horowitz.

Some names stick better than others therefore people at times are encouraged to change theri names to catch the ear of another...THAT is why!!!!
