Great question - I've recently seen the film. I can't say that I would ever purchase any of his music and I found some of his songs grating but I would see him live. His life is extremely interesting to say the least. He writes very well and has lots of talent in that regard...his voice just kinds of irks me sometimes. Again, I'd see him live, given the chance - looks like it would be a great experience.

More mental illness - but I think that mental illness freed him up to be more musically open, and that might be where the genius comes in (though I'm not sure that's the word I'd really choose to use).
