we each have our own ideas of what is morally right and wrong and whe all know what society says is morally right and wrong i think its a bit of both. we know that if we break socially accepted rules we will be punished but they can conflict with our own ideas of whats right.

You asked the same question. But it all depends on what you mean control. The language you are using is English, so being born in a English speaking society you have been controlled to conform to the English speaking standard. Now if you are meaning behaviors well humanity in general controls that. Act like a idiot and hurt people and no matter where you are you'll probably be controlled "handcuffed"and sent to a place "jail" that separates your unruly behavior. Now as long as you follow simple humanity rules and follow the basic laws in place you have the freedom to do say or be anything you want. But again this also depends on the micro-society you currently choice to be in. Example: Any American civilian can say that George Bush is incompetent or other disparaging remarks. But if your active duty military you would be violating that societies rules and you will be punished for it. The best thing in life to do is to learn about the different rules in certain micro-societies and if they fit your way of life then join that group. America has a place for just about everyone. And if you really don''t fit into any society then of course the world of psychology would love to have you join their little group.

I think it happens both ways. We control society when for instance, something it's done so often that becomes general knowledge and it can be ruled as law. This happens a lot with commerce and business trade. In the other hand, rules created by the government have the intention to control society like for instance tax law. We all pay taxes because that's what the law-rule says. So again, I think it happens both ways.
Hope this help!

Society restricts some of our freedoms certainly, we can't for example murder whoever we want or take things from physically weaker people at will, without reprisals. There are also many more less obvious pressures exerted on us by society, the pressure to conform to typical ideas of beauty for example.
However the laws which restrict some freedoms also safeguard others (in theory), such as the freedom to live without fear of murder, and to possess things which can't be taken by any passer by who wants them.
And the pressures to conform to accepted norms can also be ignored, you can shave your head or grow dreadlocks or get an all over tattoo that makes you look like a leopard.
In conclusion then, society controls some aspects of our lives and attempts to control many more, but we still have quite a lot of personal freedom, especially if we ignore those social pressures which are not enshrined in law.

Society in itself is a progressive advance of people in class rankings in amount of status of richest to poorest.
Each though apparently different share the same personal traits and therefore it can only be deemed.
That society rules us as a barrier to common understanding and peace.
But in my case i am a non-conformist who believes that in it's own state mankind is doomed to death in it's own ignorance and corruption.
We should stop thinking about society and differences from one person to the next
We should instead take a look at each other and see the common traits we all share
Sorry if this seems long but i thought I'd answer truthfully

Its a bit like the chicken and the egg.
We make Society what it is
But Society is what controlls us.
Yet we as Society set up the rules by which to controll us.
in other words we controll ourselves

well i would have to say since 9/11 society and miratary kind of controls us, look at what you have to do just to get a short flied on a air plane, or anu thing that takes you somewhere. The secerity had become so tough it would be lucky if you got to get on the plane in time to make your meeting. Buses, and trains have become a real pain just to ride a short distine cause they feel they need to check every thing you have.

We are controlled. We are lied to in such a way as to make us believe the lies and pass them on from one generation to another.
The nation wants us to have a personal sense of social and family comittment so we are encouraged to be religious. The state requires a labour force so we are encouraged to have children but the state cannot and will not support them so we are encouraged to marry on religious, moral and romantic grounds even though the only real point to marriage is to ensure that people cannot easily separate when there is no more love or when financial pressures arise. The reason we are encouraged to marry is so that the state does not have to support children and one parent families but we are never told that this is the reason we should marry.
We are taught about our glorious history and tradition, the empire and the commonwealth even though they were really only a means for us to exploit other countries.
We go to war these days with our leaders talking about human rights in other countries, about right and wrong but never once mentioning that the war is again about securing our wealth, for example by ensuring that oil from the middle east is still available and affordable for us. So we send young men in the army to die in order to make businessmen richer.
We form alliances cased on economics, not on virtue.
We take one sided political positions, such as supporting the USA in demanding that Iran stops nuclear production at the very same time as the USA is negotiating in the senate about huge expenditure on updating and improving the USA's own military nuclear capability.
We are never told that economics and greed is at the heart of every political decision and right and wrong do not come into it. Think of the many under developed and starving central African countries, in the grip of civil wars, barborous and corrupt leaders. Do we do anything about that, no. Why? No money in it.

Does the driver of the cart guide the horse, or does the horse lead the cart?
Society will only 'control you' if you allow it to. However, you can influence society in order to control (or maybe at least) influence yourself.
