I don't know what to believe and it's not a matter of "hiding" something, just personal privacy.
Does my ISP (or others) keep track of my internet activity?
For example, do they know that I visit this site and ask this question?
I know that not much is personal anymore, but I think we all need a certain level of a personal life.

Yes. The keep track of the places you go. I really don't think they keep records of actual letters typed but I wouldn't put it past "big brother" to be watching. I am also sure that they have key word triggers to "listen" on the net for terrorist activities.

Sure they do! That is why they seize computers when crimes are committed. Also the government has a spying program that actually caused a lawsuit between Earthlink and the Federal Government over privacy. The government uses programs like Echelon and Carnivore to snoop on electronic transmissions such as emails, etc.
For other purposes, others keep track of internet activity through cookies, etc. and that is how the phishing scams get your information as well.

Truth is yes, but they cannot reveil any information unless they have a supena from the goverment agencys.......download free ccleaner, check all the little boxes down to advanced, in options check secure file deletion, 1 pass run it always when you are ready to shut your computer down, it takes like 10 seconds, all traces of your internet activity will be erased, once a week check for issues, and check fix them, your computer will run faster to.

ISP's have rights to keep IP's, normally they store the references made by you. But it wont affect your work coz its highly confidential. Unless you do some hacking, or some other related stuffs, it won be revealed to anyone...

Most ISP's do keep a record of such information, but they are not likely to use it for anything malicious.

The old rule of thumb is, "Don't send anything in an email that you wouldn't want posted on a public billboard."
