Having been lucky enough to see Hendrix, Clapton, Jimmy P (of Led Zep), Keith Richards and others, in concert(s)--I have to vote for Hendrix. He showed why we use the word "play"--as in play guitar. He made it look so effortless, like the guitar was an extension of him. And I am not just refering to his suggestive poses. Those who question my choice should look up some of his instumental songs on later albums, as he began to blur the line between rock and jazz and blues. Iif he'd lived longer and been able to finish some of his next recording plans, no one would ever ask your question again.

James Marshall Hendrix...he wasn't just a guitarist; he was a musician and an innovator -- how many who followed in his footsteps named him as an influence?
