16 lengths in a 25m pool is 400m, which is a little over 400 yards. Swimming 400 yards in 8 minutes is COOKIN.' If you could go 16 laps in under 12 minutes you'd be doing very well...

I am a swimmer and about 16 laps in a 25 meter pool is 400 yards. If I were to do 400 yards as hard as I could go it would take me about 3 minutes and 45 seconds so depending on how good you are at swimming you probably don't have to swim that fast.

It is about 15 1/2 lengths. A meter is a little more than a yard.

its probably closer to 15 laps then 16.. but its just a guess...
how fast you should swim it depends on what your doing the 400 for!
if ur on a swim team.. then 8 min. is slow
if ur just looking for a goal time to reach while ur just swimming laps at the local YMCA then 8 min. is ok!

A meter is approximately 3.1 yards. In order to swim 400 yards in a 25 meter pool, you would have to stop somewhere in the middle of the pool. To avoid this problem, there are conversion formulas to approximate your time in meters to a time in yards and vice versa.

Converting short course yards times to meter times

Short course yards to short course meters:

Meter time = (yard time in sec.) * 1.1

Short course yards to long course meters:

When yard distance = meter distance, meter time = (yard time in sec. * 1.1) + T
( where T = the difference in the number of turns between short course and long course)

* 50 yard event to 50 meter event: meter time = (yard time in sec. * 1.1) +1
* 100 yard event to 100 meter event: meter time = (yard time in sec. * 1.1) + 2
* 200 yard event to 200 meter event: meter time = (yard time in sec. * 1.1) + 4
* 400 yard event to 400 meter event: meter time = (yard time in sec. *1.1) + 8

500/1000 yd free to 400/800 meter free: meter time = (yd time in sec. * 1.1 * .8 ) + T
( where T = the difference in the number of turns between short course and long course)

* 500 yard event to 400 meter event: meter time = (yard time in sec. * 1.1 * .8) + 12
* 1000 yard event to 800 meter event: meter time = (yard time in sec. *1.1 * .8) +24
