At 5 months most babies are just learning to sit up with help, rolling over and perhaps learning to scoot across the floor. 5 month olds enjoy putting all kinds of toys in their mouths so have lots of clean, safe toys available. Most 5 month olds are on some kind of solid food such as cereal or jar food and take bottles about every 3-4 hours. They typically take 2-3 naps a day depending on the baby, some take more or less.

My little girl is 6 months old and sits fairly well by herself, rolls all over the place and is beginning to crawl. She is happily entertained by most anything you put in front of her but will inevitably be put in her mouth. She has slight stranger anxiety but warms up within minutes to pretty much anyone.

Hope this helps!!

First thing RELAX. Most likely the mother will give u a scedule or idea of when to feed. She will most likely take a short cat nap while u are there. Babies usually nap after they eat. If u have to feed her while the other child is there maybe try8ing to get ur attention i would try putting on a movie for the older child or maybe a coloring book. Changing the baby will be easy. Usually every hour to hour and a half is best. Unless u smell somthing to tell u otherwise. Don't be afraid of the baby. Just be gentle and talk sweet and maybe the other sibling will point u in the right direction where diapers, wipes, bottles are. They usually like to feel like they are contributing by showing u they know where mommy keeps things. And if u have any problems or questions u can always ask the mother to write down the babies scedule or next feeding so u can know when to feed. It's not hard i promise. I have a 6 mo. little boy and a terrible two little girl. U will most likely have fun.

Ask the parents for a schedule of what she should be doing at that time. If it's in the evening (after 7pm), she will more than likely be sleeping, and at 5 months, most babies sleep through the night without another feeding after 6pm, though a few are still requiring an 11pm feeding.

It really depends on when you are babysitting. I can almost guarantee that unless it is night, you will have to feed her during the three hours, and she will also have a period of naptime (if she is on a proper schedule). For example, 12pm-3pm. She might have eaten at 11:30, then she'll sleep from 12-2pm, have a 2:30 feeding, and stay away for the rest of the time (sleeping again at 4pm).

But every child is different, so do ask the parents. And follow their schedule! The worst thing to do for a child this age is to interrupt their schedule. I know this from experience, because when the child I cared for went to a daycare center, they didn't keep to the schedule, and she stopped sleeping through the night and got sick. She was taken out of the daycare center, and I was able to get her back on her schedule and sleeping through the night and well again in a few weeks.

Mine was clipped when I was just a day old or so. My mother realized that I had the problem immediately. It was a very simple procedure from what I understand. It isn't necessary to have the tongue clipped, but I do advise it. My mother's isn't and although she doesn't have an big speech problems, there are certain words that she has trouble saying. You wouldn't really know unless she told you about it, but it is pretty clear that a clipped tongue would have many a few things easier. And little things like- licking an ice cream cone. My mother really can't do that. And I don't even want to think about my mother french kissing, but i am sure that is basically impossible as well. So, I really think it will be O.K. I have never heard of anyone having a big problem from the procedure.

If your just babysitting, the mother will tell you the baby's routine. If the parents are going out for a few hours, maybe they'll time it right and the mother will put the little one down and she sleep most of the time they are gone. Then you should be ok with the 6/7 yr old. Good luck and remember to be patient.

My son is 5 months and 3 days old. This is a fun age. Lots of smiles, they love to giggle, especially at older siblings. Faces, smiles, and handling small objects (rattles, rings, teethers) will keep 'em busy and happy.

Remember the baby will likely eat, burp, sleep and play, often in that order, usually in 3 hour cycles or so. Your best ally can be the 6/7 year old. Enlist them as your helper. Have a contest to see who can make baby laugh (let 6/7 year old win) by making funny faces or silly (calm) noises.

The older kid will probably give you more trouble.

Make sure you have ALL the emergency phone numbers you need (the parents, the baby doctor, the local emergency room).

Baby should need just routine diaper change and a bottle of formula.
The rest of the time, baby should be sleeping or will need a bit of burping or rocking by you.

For the older kid, make sure they are QUIET - no loud TV or music.
They are also to listen and obey you - your first priority is the baby (the helpless one).

Good luck!

the baby will most likely be asleep most of the time but you may need to feed and change her once maybe twice.since the baby will be asleep you can do activities such as color, play a game or other thing but make sure you keep an eye on the baby at all times.an other thing you can do is ask/talk to the parents they should be able to answer most iuf not all of your questions and it will show resposibility.GOOD LUCK
ps.youll get the hang of it
