The threatening is a scare-tactic to keep your from breaking up with him. It's sound like he's insecure and would have problems finding someone else to replace your tollerance with him.
If you are unhappy in the relationship, you have every right to end it. Your not married, so you wouldn't have to carry the "divorced already" baggage around with you. Let your parents and his parents know the details of his threat and tell them you are breaking up with him. Let his parents deal with him. If he offs himselfs after, they failed to do their part to get involved in his problems. Lose him and find someone you will be happy with. Under the circumstances, you already sound miserable.

Know that he isn't going to kill himself. I previously answered a question similar to this one. It is a control factor. When someone is going to kill themselves, they don't advertise it. Men who are controlling and feel that the control is slipping away will often use the suicide line to keep you there. If he sees that it worked, believe me, it won't stop there. You're better off out of the situation when he is showing such extreme signs of being a controller. Leave him, trust me when I tell you, he won't do it.

You tell him that if he is serious then he needs to seek counseling. You, continue what you have planned as far as breaking up with him. If it should happen for some reason, don't you dare put any blame on you. He needs help.

This is a form of control and it is abusive. You need to call the police and have him taken into custody so he can get the help that he needs. They will most likely take him in for a psychiatric evaluation.

That's emotional blackmail. Tell him that is emotional blackmail, and it is very unattractive and that he should seek counseling and that you two need to stop talking to each other for a while so he can get over you. Like a few months minimum.

You leave him. Jesus Christ...talk about selfish and childish. "I'll kill myself if you leave". Go ahead....he'll be out of your hair. Men (or women for that matter) that toss an ultimatium like that into your face have no place in YOUR life. And if you allow them in because of that then you're a bigger jackass than they are. Escape....while you still have time!

First call 911 and alert them that you intend to drop the guy and then call him
Since he is using his self inflicted demise to control you, this should be a deterent for him to ever pull this one again

You are not responsible for the irrational, manipulative, controlling actions of someone else. You should run, not walk, away from this destructive relationship as quickly as possible.

Pass him a sharp razor, sleeping pills, and a pre-tied noose. See if he'll do it. Sad, sad, emo kids.
