When I worked in a Suzuki dealer in Britain, we sold one to a girl stationed in Germany (she was in air force)
Picked it up Friday evening and by Sunday had ridden it 1,200 miles to base.
May not be fast but it will get you where you want to go.
Depending where you are in the world, it should be pretty easy to get generic or model specific accessories
Suzuki still list it for 2007. Its been around a while.
The only 'problem' I know of is the front fork brace bolts loosen off and fender vibrates, but its easy to tighten them up

The GS 500 are a good commuter bike and will be well able to cruise on a motorway all day long at a comfortable 90mph or about 140kmph if youd like a tall screen or a small (fly screen) youll find a good selection are made by an Italian company called Givi. They also do excellent racks, boxes, muffs etc, your local bike shop should be able to order all you want or you can order from their site directly from givi.it best of luck
