I want to be a rapper... Im not the type that talks about killing people or anything... But I LOVE music, and this is what I really want to do. I cant see myself doing anything else... I think I am pretty good at it... There is only one thing - My look. Sometimes I think I look like a rapper, then I will take a pic of myself to put on my muisc page but it just wont look right. Then I imagine myself, and sometimes I look like a rapper and sometimes I dont... I just dont know what to do... So since I dont look like I could be a rapper, how do you give up your dream? Thank you!

You don't need to look like one to be one! There's such a thing as having your own style and OWNING it! Give yourself some credit! Listen to Talib Kweli and Mos Def and KRS-One, and you'll see that music is personal and comes from your heart. You'll never make it and be happy and at peace about it if you sell out before you even start.
Don't give up your dream - keep on....there's no reason to keep on if you give up such a deep part of you.

I would say don't. There are plenty of rappers that don't look the part and don't talk about only drugs and killing. Look at common I think he is lyrically one of the best rappers out. Even Jay-Z said he wishes he could rap like common. The list can go on and on with positive rappers. I am a poetry major and I love music but most of all i love the words they put to the beats. It is what you say that will have you to be well known. If you are good producers will look pass you look cuz they can always give you another one. I would love to see your myspace page so I can hear a freestyle. Good luck with you dream honey.

What does your look have to do with your rap? If you are good, it doesn't matter what you look like. Conversely, if you're pretty it doesn't matter if you can't rap!
Also, you could let the fact that you DON'T look like your typical rapper work for you. There are dozens of rappers who all look the same and talk the same and act the same. Be different. Use it to make yourself unusual and use that to get your name out there. If you're really good, your ability will take care of the rest.

I didnt think Eminem looked like a rapper when I first saw him. You gotta just go with it. Dont ever let go of your dreams

well you shouldn't GIVE UP. but if you're positive that you probably won't ever make it then find something else that you like. but you won't get ANYWHERE if you don't believe in yourself. try getting into a music school, if you know how to read music and all that jazz you can get farther. well i'm not as sure with rap though. but if its really just about your look buy new clothes look through magazines. shopping spree!! haha.
