They've been pierced since the end of August 2006 and I still have my starter stud earings. It's my first and only piercing. The person who pierced them told me to leave them in for 8 weeks which is longer than usual. I spun them regularly and used the cleaner 3 times a day. My right ear almost got infected but I fixed it, and now it's fine. The problem is that I took them out on Halloween 2006 (after 8 weeks) and they hurt a little, but I managed to get other Halloween related earings on. At the end of the day, when I took them out to put the others back in, it hurt, but I got them in. Now it's been 6 months and whenever somebody touches them, they hurt. When I spin them, they're fine. When I try to take them out, they hurt. When I try to put studs in, they hurt, but they go in. When I try to put in others, they won't go in my right ear, it hurts too much, so I have to put the starter studs back in. Is 6 months too long? What's wrong with them? Please help. Should I give up?

My parents keep telling me to start over, but I don't want to. I never want to get them pierced again, it killed! I'm an overly sensitive person if that helps...

Good answers so far, but I can't afford real gold and silver earrings. Another thing, why will only studs go in my ears?

You need to keep them clean with alcohol or peroxide, and you can put antibiotic ointment on them to help with healing; and always wear only pure silver or gold, as silver and gold plating will irritate your ears. Your novelty earrings are probably just that, cheap irritating earrings. Studs are thicker than regular earrings so it's normal for them to hurt putting them back in after they have been out for a while. Leave them in until they stop hurting because other wise you are reopening an open wound each time you take them out or spin them. I recommend the cleaning with peroxide, lathering the earring in bacitracin ointment, put it in the ear and spin it to be sure the bacitacin is evenly coating the inside of the piercing.

Sounds like you either have a low tolerance for piercings or you are not tolerant of the metals in the jewelery. Try using Neosporin on your ears for a week or two and see if that helps, if not you might have to take the earrings out and let the holes close. Good Luck..

I have been given mine carried out whilst i became 10.. and that i became advised to depart them in... yet issues have replaced considering then . Then I have been given yet another one whilst i became 18...I take them out each night and that i depart them out you be attentive to whilst i'm laying on the settee (watching television) . What I did as quickly as I took them out became I took rubbing alcohol and that i had my mom sparkling the ear holes with it , then the backs of the jewelry, after which the earring (no longer the stone) . It did no longer heal completely swifter i merely needed to ascertain it did no longer get contaminated..I advise I already knew what to the 2nd time yet as quickly as I first have been given it carried out i became scared .
