Neither a "Soft Power" nor "Super Power" Let's call it "Dumb Power", shall we?
On one hand we have a zillion things to talk about, growing economy, IT boom, Sensex at 14000, blah blah. The truth is that while the government has succeeded luring foreign investments to the country, the money keeps revolving here and there and not where it should be. The govt. collects ridiculous amounts of money from companies that gain money from foreign venture capitalists in the form of tax, but apparently doesn't use it in developing the country the way it should be.

Sensex is at 14000. Wow! really cool. But how much did you buy those onions for? You have got IT professionals working like crazy in those Bangalore/Hyderabad offices. Can you name one software made by an Indian company, Sold in Indian market and which has an Indian brand name? (Well other than Tally and QuickHeal I didn't see any). Basically you've got smart people, who've got brains, but no brains in how to use those brains. Had Sabeer Bhatia not sold Hotmail to Microsoft, I bet my life he'd have been as rich as Mr....sorry..sorry..Lord Bill Gates. Indian IT pros basically work for a 40000 salary which is 'amazing' for them but they forget, that their MNC employers are reaping H U G E profits.

Coming to agro, sure we love our food. We all prefer to use our hands and not spoons to relish the "daal chaawal" but we don't see the amount of wastage of food we make. The farmers are not empowered in India. Yeah we've got panchayats and blah... but they really don't work toward giving the farmer better economic, credit facilities, ridiculous amounts of interests charged by the local 'Baniyas' which led many debt-ridden farmers to suicide in Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. Their suppliers and the market hierarchy exploit farmers by setting unfair prices. Those onions you and I buy would've costed us 15 bucks, where the farmer actually gets 3~4 /Kg. The Minister of Agriculture Mr....sorry again...Bhagwan Sharad Pawar seems to be busy with his cricket team, BCCI, World Cup etc while we pay the price for expensive veggies.

Foreign Relations: The Indo-US Nuke deal was perhaps the stupidest thing ever to happen to India since Emergency declared by Mrs...Sorry...Devi Indira Gandhi. The US got what they wanted from us, to quit NAM. That's in America's interests. They suceeded. In doing this we've voted against Iran in the IAEA summit 2006. Iran, India's "bachpan ka dost" who promised to sell cheap oil via the Oil pipeline project. "Mommy, where's the nuke fuel they promised?" Waiting for a fresh list of clearences as declared by Nick Burns on 23/feb/07. "Bhayya, lene ke dene pad gaye"

The Pakistani Foreign Minister seems to have spotted this flaw in India that's why he flies down to India in the name of Joint AntiTerror Mechanism as if India is his "Sasuraal". Why do you need such tedious diplomatic crap, when you could do the same with just forming a couple of CRPF regiments to hunt down terrorists. A classic example is that of what CRPF did in dismantling naxalism in Andhra Pradesh.

Bottomline: Branding India as "super power" depends upon who's actually branding it. To countries like Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, or even Iran for that matter, India is significant, if not mighty. But if you ask countries like China, US or the EU, you're sure to get "India? Superpower? Yeah right!" as a reply. Calling it "soft power" again is dicey. Every country has its share of terrorist activity for which you can't blame the country as a whole. We have to learn to be "proactive" and not "reactive" toward terror else we end up like US, which destroyed two countries just because two of its buildings were. "An eye for an eye would make the whole world blind" says MK Gandhi.

We as Indians are the carriers of our own destiny, we should attribute nobody but ourselves in our success or failures, in joy or sorrow, development or detrement. Lest we live in self-denial as what is typical for an Indian.

Really India and Indians are strong but some of them are black spots who are destroying the country.
We have to highlight them and give a turn on his thinking and working.
If all Indians will be happy and loving his country, India may be the super power.

India has not reached the stage to be branded as a power... however it is a country of beautiful, intelligent and cultured people... it is a leading country in science & technology...

we have become a neuclear power, however, we have that tecnology as a deterant against any probable advances by nonfriendly countries...

the days are not far away when we would find our country to become a powerful land... just wait and watch...

we do not show off...

A population of 1.2 billion ppl speaks a lot about the reality. It is no doubt a geopoliitcal force but proving a point to weaker nations all the times is not a great success. For our failures we blame others and always keep that option open. For inabilities we blame the high population and democracy. For success we brag about our intellectual prowess. In short, we live in self denial.
