I am looking for a web host that has a terms of service agreement that I can live with. Having spent hours reading several dozen agreements from different companies, I have found none acceptable.
I will not agree to provide free legal defense to everybody the host ever met for anything that isn't the direct action of me or my agents.
I will not agree that the host can change a legal agreement between us without my written agreement to the changes.
I will not enter a contract that gives any company or their affiliates the right to spam me (see lunarpages TOS).
I will not agree that the host can cancel my service and own the content of my site.
I will not agree that the host can charge me $200-$500 for backcharging my credit card. Back charging is one of the few ways available to protect against lack of service or fradulant billing.

Are there any web hosting services out there that have reasonable terms?

I have checked terms on all the sights recommended so far, and I am very concerned for those of you who have agreed to the TOS on any of those sites. They own you.

There are several companies you should be able to live with.
Keep in mind, any company is going to go to whatever lengths they deem necessary to protect their [not yours] interests.
I recommend you stay with the larger, more reliable firms.
They are usually the cheapest as well.
