Cut off your hand at the wrist and replace it with a hook. People will admire your piratey accessory rather than be disgusted by your disfigurement.

Well, firstly, you should make sure that you're not overly self-conscious of your fingers, because if you are, other people will notice it, and pick up on that, giving them all the more reason to stare. I know it's unfair and rude, but people generally seem to work that way.
Secondly, perhaps you're feeling that people are staring at your fingers because you're feeling insecure about them(maybe they were just glancing)! Stop caring, and be proud of yourself, and what makes you an individual! Show them you've got tough skin.
And lastly, but most importantly, just don't care! I know how you feel, because this has happened to me before due to a physical disfigurement, where a lady on the bus refused to avert her gaze from me, even after a good 10 minutes. So you know what i did, after several attempts at trying to hide, I looked up, straight at her, and gave her my best smile. That's when she finally looked away. So, really, all the advice I can give you is, when someone stares, stare straight back at them, smile, and give them a wave with your sensitive hand! Sometimes, we have to let people know that we're not afraid of them/their stares, and that we are perfectly comfortable with ourselves and who we are! :)

Look at their eyes and follow their gaze to your hand. Then with surprise on your face start yelling and screaming - Aaaahhhhhh!
My fingers fell off!!!!!! Help me find them!!!!!!!!
Okay, so that's probably not the best way to deal with it, but it would be fun a couple of times. Maybe just educate them quickly when you feel like you have it in you to do it and when you don't just try and ignore them. I have an autistic son and people like to stare at us too. You'll get use to it and try to use it for good to educate people that it's OK to be a little different, and that you aren't still in pain - blah, blah, blah. Anyway, try not to worry, things will get better.

People are curious by nature. I suggest you forget about trying to make people not look and concentrate more on how you handle the situation. You will never stop people from looking unless you keep your hands in your pockets at all times. Therefore, accept the inevitable of curiosity and let them look. If they ask, simply tell them with a smile. If you don't want to get into more details, again, simply say you do not wish to discuss it.

I am so sorry to hear about your accident. People are rude and do not know any better so try to ignore them as best as you can. When people look at your hands, just look the other way and think to yourself "I'm alive and feel great!"

You're not. I don't think people look because of anything bad. Its a natural thing to notice something thats not what we normally see. I doubt they are thinking anything bad or looking at you bad - human nature. By the way, your typing is perfect and alot better than mine with two good hands. Don't be ashamed.

hmm... i think a look would be forgivable but staring is just rude.
option 1- live with it. when someone stares... stare at them back. if your middle finger is intact, show it to them.
option 2- ignore them. just ignore them.
option 3- hide it. maybe you can wear a glove and just stuff the missing fingers?
i feel more strongly about the first one. :D
goodluck with dealing with the freaks.

I am sorry for your loss. After a loss you are vulnerable. You are alone and hurting and here is this nice person helping you and showing you kindness, it is normal to form an attachment to that person. You are not being an ****** at all.
