I'll be visiting London for the first time this summer and I'm just wondering which area is better to stay at? It would be nice to be close to attractions, yet having a nice area to stay. Any other suggustions are welcomed.

http://www.tripadvisor.com/ An absolute must to review your hotel. Don't go to London without checking out your hotel.

As for the two areas, both are kind of busy. Victoria is nearer to the Palace and Picadilly and other parts of the city, but Bayswater is nearer Hyde Park and Notting Hill and has more of a nightlife with lots of little restaurants.

It really comes down to your budget. I usually stay around South Kennsington, finding it quiet enough but close enough to get to where I want to be. Also has a few shops here and there for dinner and the like, but it can be more expensive than other areas.

Please check the site to see if your hotel is listed. London hotels are not quite the same standard as US hotels for the price.

I've stayed in the Bayswater area and I absolutely loved it! It is very quiet at night I felt very safe there. The lodging also seemed to be much cheaper in this area as well. I stayed at Thistle Lancaster Gate and I had a pleasant experience.
